The Psychiatry and Law Service is the division of the Emory Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences which deals with issues involving psychiatric questions which come before the courts. The Service sponsors a fellowship in forensic psychiatry for residents who have completed a residency in psychiatry and wish further training in forensic psychiatry.

In addition, the Service provides teaching in forensic psychiatry to other trainees, such as general psychiatry residents, fellows in child and adolescent psychiatry, medical students, and psychology graduate and post-graduate students. The Service holds a seminar Friday mornings at which clinical cases are presented and important legal cases are discussed.

The Service can provide forensic psychiatric consultations to faculty and trainees. The Service performs a variety of forensic services, such as pre-trial evaluations on competency and criminal responsibility to the Fulton County courts, assessments of custody and parenting, and independent psychiatric examinations in civil cases.

Further questions can be directed to Dr. Ash.
